Hotel 1898 has a fascinating history: in 1929, the building was the headquarters of the Philippine Tobacco Company and the remodeling was carried out by the architects Josep Maria Sagnier Vidal and Josep María Rivasa. Today it is one of the city's best hotels with an unbeatable location. In the heart of Barcelona this excellent hotel is located on the center street – La Rambla. In 1929 the building was the headquarters of the Philippine Tobacco Company and the rebuilding was done by the architects Josep Maria Sagnier Vidal and Josep Maria Rivasa.
Later it was the private residence of the family Lopez & Lopez who were the owners of the Transatlantic Company. Today the hotel is refurbished and known as one of the best hotels with a great location.

When you step out of the hotel you are met by the buzz of Barcelona's urban culture, the Rambla is the main street, where you will find numerous shops and restaurants. The beautiful Placa Cataluna is the fix point at the end of the Rambla where several other areas of the city meet at the large fountain. Here are the large El Corte Ingles shopping center and several lovely cafes and shops. If you go the other way down the Rambla, you end up at the old harbor and the beach which is one of the best known characteristics of Barcelona. Close to the hotel is also the Picasso Museum, Gaudí's Palau Guell and the world famous Opera House Gran Teatre del Liceu.

On the other side of Las Ramblas is Barcelona's old town - El Gotic, which, with its many small and winding streets featuring countless unique shops and Spanish culinary specialties, is an experience on its own. Here is also Placa de la Villa de Madrid where you can see the ancient Roman tombs that were found in the streets, when the city was renovated before the Olympics 1992. Close to the hotel is the big market - Mercat Boqueria, where you can buy fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish and meat from local, it is certainly worth a visit for food lovers.
