The tour to El Escorial and Valle de los Caídos is a splendid introduction to two of the most interesting periods in Spain's history: at the Escorial palace you will experience the splendour of the Habsburg Kings of the 16th Century - at Valle de los Caidos you will see the impressive monument built by Franco to commemorate the fallen during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
After pickup at the hotel we head to El Escorial, one of Spain's most important monument and a World Heritage Site (on UNESCO's World Heritage list since november 1984). The royal palace and basilica is of enormous dimensions. Hereafter we continue to Valle de los Caídos, the monument that was erected by Francisco Franco to honor the fallen who died during the Spanish Civil War. Franco himself is burried here, as well as Primo de Rivera and more than 32.000 people from both sides.
The excursion gives insight into Spain's intriguing history and makes you understand how the Spanish society is still marked by the past.
