Get to know Toledo's history and see its many churches, synagogues, monasteries and of course the famous works of art by El Greco. Toledo still reflects its role as one of the most important citites in the Catholic Spain of the Middle Ages.After pick-up at the hotel we go to the most famous square in town, Zocodover. Here you will visit the 16th-Century Santa Cruz museum and the famous Alcazar (dates from the 10th Century), built as a fortress and later converted into a Royal Palace.
Later you will visit the Tornerias Mesquite, the Cathedral (one of the best examples of Gothic style in Spain), the San Roman Church and Santo Domingo El Antiguo Monastery. Afterwards, you will be able to admire El Greco's masterpiece: the famous painting “The burial of the Count of Orgaz”, in the church of Santo Tome.
You will now stroll through the Jewish quarter and see the Transito Synagogue and the Santa Maria La Blanca Synagogue, built in Mudejar and Almohade style respectively. The tour then goes to the Juan de los Reyes Monastery, a beautiful monastery founded to show the power of the Catholic faith in Spain.
We will stop at a quality restaurant where it is possible to enjoy a nice lunch, a try local dishes like pork, rabbit and partridge. After the delicious lunch, we will take you through the main bridges in the city, so you can admire the wonderful views of the city and the Tajo River. See the gates of the ancient city walls, including the Bisagra gate, and the Roman Circus ruins.
We end the tour at the 13-Century Santiago del Arrabal Church, the most remarkable Mudejar architecture building in Toledo, and the Cristo de la Luz mosque, an Arab mosque which dates back from the 10th Century.
